Nov. 15, 2010 - Hello everyone, it has been a long while, and a time of many trials and tribulations, but we've managed to stay alive and survive it all. We hope that you all are too...

At long last, the long-awaited new live album "David Kincaid and The Brandos - Live in Europe! has hit the presses and will be available on Dec. 1, 2010! Recorded during the 2004 European tour centered around David Kincaid's solo albums "The Irish Volunteer" and "The Irish-American's Song," this album features front man David Kincaid (lead vocals, mandolin, bodhrán, acoustic guitar and banjo), along with The Brandos’ Ernie Mendillo (bass, backing vocals) and Frank Giordano (backing vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica), and Christopher Layer (uilleann pipes, flute and whistle).

Following the 2003 release of “The Irish-American’s Song,” David Kincaid’s second effort of songs of the Irish in the American Civil War, a European tour was organized by Konzertbüro Emmert, which would run from January 30 to February 21, 2004, and include performances in Germany, Holland, Belgium and Denmark, with three of the shows being recorded. These tapes, immaculately recorded in digital format, were dusted off at the beginning of 2010, and have revealed an incredible passion and fire from the band, and then back again from the audience, and have made us feel very fortunate that this unique tour was documented.

Of the twenty songs on this album, eighteen were taken from the show on Feb. 10, 2004 at the Theaterhaus, Stuttgart, Germany (an amazing concert venue of pristine acoustics), while the remaining two are from Feb. 15, 2004 at the Columbia Fritz, Berlin, Germany (a converted movie theater originally built for US servicemen). The majority (16), are Irish songs of the American Civil War, featuring fifteen songs from both of David Kincaid’s albums of this historical music, along with one previously unreleased Civil War song, “Merrily Kissed the Quaker/The New York Volunteer.” Also included are four tunes by The Brandos (David Kincaid’s rock ‘n roll band), including “Hallowed Ground” and “Paddy on the Turnpike/Exit 57” (previously unreleased in live versions), played in this unusual format. With the work beginning in March, 2010, these recordings have received meticulous attention in the post-production, mixing and mastering with the most state-of-the art technology. This 2-CD set, in a beautiful 6-panel fold out digipak package, includes a 12-page booklet featuring a number of great tour photos and liner notes by David Kincaid.

Captured as only a live concert can; crackling with all the emotion, intensity and great live energy that the fans have long come to expect from both David Kincaid and his band, The Brandos, this rare and gripping recording is not one to miss.

May 14, 2010 - Confirmation has just been received that David Kincaid will be performing at the 12th Annual Staten Ireland Irish Fair (yes, that's really what they call it...), taking place on Sat., June 12 & Sun., June 13, here on Staten Island, NY, David's home turf. We're really looking forward to this one, right in our own back yard.

April 11, 2010 - We've just receieved news that german public radio station Deutschlandradio Kultur will broadcast The Brandos' concert from October 20, 2007, recorded at the Harmonie in Bonn, Germany. This broadcast will take place on April 14, 2007 at 8:03 PM European time (2:03 PM EST in the US). This was a fun show and we're delighted that it will be aired again. Click to access their site.

There are also new live dates for David Kincaid performing songs of the Irish volunteers of the American Civil War, including: May 22, 2010 - Ashokan Civil War Days, which will also feature Jay Ungar and Molly Mason (of "Ashokan Farewell" fame) among others, August 6-8, 2010 - Civil War Music Heritage Gathering, Windham, NY, and the Sept. 11, 12, 2010 - Pittsburgh Irish Festival.

March 27, 2010 - Greetings everyone and a belated happy new year to you all! It’s been a while and a lot has gone on since there was any news from us. We want assure that it has not been out of a lack of desire or from apathy on our part, but has instead been due to a lot of changes and overwhelming circumstances. For my part this has involved the second move to a new house in two years and with it, the setting up of a new recording studio, and an operation on my left inner ear. As you can imagine, ear problems are pretty scary for a musician, but I’m happy to report that it went well and things are improving with it. The dust from all this is finally beginning to settle and with that we hope to get a lot done this year.

First on the agenda is a new live album from the “Irish Tour” we did in Europe in 2004 which included shows in Germany, Holland, Belgium and Denmark. As the fans who attended will remember, it featured mainly songs from both of my albums of Irish-American Civil War songs (The Irish Volunteer and The Irish-American’s Song), along with a few Brandos’ favorites performed with this lineup and instrumentation, featuring Frank Giordano (acoustic guitar, backing vocal, harmonica), Ernie Mendillo (bass, backing vocal), Christopher Layer (uilleann pipes, flute, tin whistle), and David Kincaid (lead vocal, mandolin, bodhrán, acoustic guitar, banjo). Dusting off the tapes and listening I was taken back to that time and reminded of how much fun – and really, really hard work – that tour was. While we’d done quite a few “unplugged” tours of Brandos’ songs in the 90s, which always had a strong dose of american and irish traditional music, we had never done anything as purely traditional as this. Three shows were recorded: Stuttgart, Berlin and Helmond, NL, and the tapes have revealed a great energy from both the band and the fans. We’re very grateful to promoter Hans Emmert for having made this unusual tour possible, and look forward to the album’s release in the near future.

Following that it will be time to finish the several projects that have been in the works for some time, including of course a new Brandos album, along with another solo album to continue the series of Irish songs from the American Civil War. Tours and gigs for both will follow, including the Pittsburgh Irish Festival this year, and more things are being discussed and planned as I write this. We’ll try to do much better in keeping you all updated from this point onward...

Have a great year, we hope to see you on the road.

Dave Kincaid
